Garden Party Hat

A surprise pattern for you this week! I submitted this pattern to Knitty, but Amy Singer, the editor didn't have enough room in this issue for it. So, that means I am free to release it to you! I think you'll love it!
When my daughter was just a baby, I saw these hats all over the place made in a soft t-shirt fabric and dozens of blossoms sewn on, probably by hand. What mother of a baby has time for that? I figured there had to be a better way. Well, I am a rocket scientist, so, I decided that it could be knit and that the flowers could be knit into the fabric as you go. Through trial and error, I discovered the flowers could be knitted in just like beads.
The beautiful thing about this technique is that you can add just a few flowers for a simple hatband, or you can add them all over as shown here. Even put them on purses, afghans, or placemats. The flowers are generally not washable, so I'd avoid putting them on clothing that needs regular cleaning.
The pattern also includes a link to a video clip showing how to knit the flowers into the hat, or any other knitting project.

You're not slow. It's not there! I updated the post with the link to the webstore. Thanks for pointing that out.
