Question: I need help with knitting instructions: It says : *ssk, K 17, rep from * 4 times more, ssk, k to end - ( end with 124 stitches) Repeat dec row every 2 " , 5 times more, knitting 1 less st between ssk"s I read it as repeat * row every 2 inches, 5 times, But I dont get it how I am going to do knitting 1 less st between ssk"s ? Can you help me with this?

Answer:From what I see, you will be knitting 1 fewer stitch between the SSKs. Because each SSK you do is going to decrease the number of stitches by one. Here's a description of what I see you're doing:

For illustration, the row immediately preceding the one in question has 19 stitches in each repeat. It may be different in the pattern you're using, but for illustration, let's say it is all knitting. When you accomplish the row in question, you'll do this:
(SSK K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K) repeat this section 4 times more (total of 5) then SSK K to end, and end up with 124 sts on the needle.

Now, you see in the repeat section, you have 18 sts. You decreased one when you did the SSK. The next time you do this row, you'll decrease one stitch like this:
(SSK K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K) (SSK and K16)

The next repeat, you'll have only 17 stitches in the repeat section.

Hi All, Thanks in advance

Submitted by Marie (not verified) on Thu, 08/27/2009 - 11:16pm.

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for reading this post.

I'm an on-again, off-again knitter. Well, it's on again! Was really enjoying working on Berroco "Donna" sweater, (link to instructions below). I completed the entire back, no problem, front, no problem up until the decreases for the neckband. That's when the confusion began. According to the instructions, I should have 64 stitches at the point where I'm at now, but I've got 82!

Can someone possibly tell me where I went off? Here are the instructions, with my comments below. I'm making the largest size, so the number of stitches on the far right within the parentheses are what applies to my project.

1) Shape Neck: Work 40(42-46-51) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 16(18-18-18) sts, decreasing 4 sts across top of center cable, work to end.

- starting w/120 stitches, binding off 18, I now have 102 (which agrees w/pattern, which has me working 51 before I start binding off. Assuming 51 on each side = 102

2) Working both sides at once, bind off 4 sts at each neck edge twice

- starting w/102 stitches, 4 stitches at each neck edge = 8, twice = 16, so I now have 102 -16 = 86 stitches

3) then dec 1 st each neck edge every RS row twice – 32 sts each side.

- starting w/86 stitches, 1 dec times 2 neck edges two times = 4 stitch decrease, leaving 82 stitches, which is 41 stitches per side, not 32!!!!

4) AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 8(8-1/2-9-9-1/2)", end on WS. Decreasing 4 sts across each full cable, shape shoulders same as for back.

pattern continues

As I said, I'm so confused. I'd hate to rip this whole thing out, because, (for a change) I actually like it!

Have a great day, all.

I think it's a typo. You'd have 32 sts if you were working the smallest size. They just didn't include the stitch count for the larger sizes.

I need help please :(
It says cast on 5 sts.
Work in stocking st, inc at each end of 9th and foll 6th rows until there are 13 sts.

I don't know if I am supposed to increase at each end starting at the 9th row until I get 13 stitches or if I'm just supposed to increase stitches until I get 13. The foll 6th rows doesn't make sense after the 9th row???? If I increase starting at the 6th row I won't end up with 13 stitches either. I am very confused can you help?

You'll have to keep track of

Submitted by bestillandknit on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 11:26pm.

You'll have to keep track of the number of rows you are knitting. Once you knit the 8th row, you'll work an increase row - increase one stitch at each end of the row for a total of 7 sts. Then, six rows later, in row 15, you'll do the same. You'll have 9 sts. Six more rows later, in row 21, increase two more and have 11 sts. Finally, in row 27, increase the last two and you'll have 13 sts!

I'm learning to knit in the round. My question: should the right side be inside or outside? or does it matter? Thanks.

It doesn't matter. Do

It doesn't matter. Do whatever you like, but keep in mind that some patterns will work out much better if you keep the right side out, like sleeves knit on seamless raglan sweaters and socks.

I have a scarf pattern that

Submitted by ElaineCO 43 stitches very loosely. Rows 1 and 3 (WS): Purl R (not verified) on Thu, 05/28/2009 - 7:48pm.

I have a scarf pattern that I really want to knit for my sister...when I started I discovered that the instructions for row 2 don't match the number of stitches cast on:

after the repeat from* to last 13 stitches then k3, yo, k1 etc..... doesn't add up to 13 stitches and I'm left with more to do and no stitches to do 'em with.

here is the pattern:

CO 43 stitches very loosely.
Rows 1 and 3 (WS): Purl
Row 2: K2tog, yo, *k3, yo, k1, (sl 1, k2tog, psso), k1, yo, k3, yo, (sl 1, k2tog, psso), yo. Repeat from * to last 13 sts, then k3, yo, k1, (sl 1, k2tog, psso), k1, yo, k3, yo, (sl 1, k1, psso).
Row 4: K2tog, yo, * k4, yo, (sl 1, k2tog, psso), yo. Repeat from * to last 6 sts, then k4, yo, (sl 1, k1, psso).

Repeat these 4 rows until scarf measures 55 inches or desired length. BO loosely on wrong side with purl stitches. Wash or dampen thoroughly and block (DO NOT STEAM TO BLOCK).

Have you tried contacting

Submitted by bestillandknit on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 11:31pm.

Have you tried contacting the pattern author to ask if there is an errata for this pattern? Many times when things don't work out, there is an error in the directions. If I were going to work this pattern as written, I think you'd need to cast on 45 sts, rather than 43. Work the repeat section twice, then you should have 13 sts remaining to work that last section on. Good luck!
